Availability. Pairs of the JansZen One are avail- able through retail dealers or direct, depending on locale. Please or call us at 866-535-8835 for dealer locations (outside North America, dial 614-448-1811). Where there is no dealer, you may purchase directly from us at JansZen. There is information below about auditioning them prior to direct purchase. Retail pricing. The price from authorized dealers for the powered Model One (J1A) is US$32,500, including delivery and setup. The passive version (J1P) is US$28,750, inclusive. An upgrade from one version to the other is US$4,750. Direct pricing. Where there is no dealer, direct purchase is available at the same prices. Cus- tomer service is provided by JansZen until a local dealer is on board. We must say with apologies that deeply discoun- ted "internet pricing" will not be available. Since loudspeakers are the only modern compo- nent that can very substantially affect the sound of your system, we strongly recommend a listening session ahead of purchase. Even where there is no dealer, you still have some auditioning options. For speakers ordered without an audition, there's a limited satisfaction assurance. Foreign pricing. Foreign orders are subject to modest additional costs, but these costs will not be inflated for profit. As you are probably aware, the dollar is down. Check your currency conversion rate for approxi- mate pricing. Dealer pricing. We are seeking dealers and representatives worldwide. We aim to provide the most satisfying and trouble-free dealer experience possible. Regarding dealerships, several options are available, from carrying our speakers in your storefront retail establishment, to soliciting personal sales from your home. Please call or email for more information. Delivery. Pairs of the JansZen One are hand assembled and finished according to your option specifications (choice of wood, paint, etc.), then subjected to final testing and burn-in. Although partially completed pairs are held in inventory, completion generally requires about three weeks. A large backlog may extend delivery time. The speakers will be delivered, installed, and adjusted by a technician for optimal performance. We welcome the involvement of the owner in the setup process, if the owner wishes. Pre-order assistance. There are a few standard option sets, and many possible variations. Naturally, you will receive personal attention when making your choices. Enclosure materials. For the wood parts, you may select from a number of traditional American hardwoods or ecologically harvested exotic woods with levels of figuring to your taste. We can also probably agree to use a wood that is not among our standard options if available from renewable sources. A glossy, solid-color lacquer is also available, with the standard color being a high gloss, piano black. Special surface finishes can be provided for a modest extra charge (e.g. tile or glass, rubber, anodized aluminum, hand painted scenes, prints, upholstery, etc.). Wood finishes. On most wood surfaces, the standard finish is a maintenance-free, polymer coating with your choice of a moderate sheen or a high gloss surface. The wood is not stained, so the surface is fully repairable in the event of minor damage. Some woods are so naturally oily that they restrict the type of finish possible. Those such as rose- wood are given an oil finish, which conserves the look and feel of the wood grain. On drier woods, such as cherry or sapele, your choice of polymer or oil finish. Grille. The grille is metallic and very open. Its standard finish is natural matte metallic, but a tough polymer finish is available in a wide range of colors. An interior, microfiber grille cloth is also available, which gives the speakers a non- distracting, blank face without affecting the sound. Grille frame. The grille frame is wooden, and is normally coated with a satin black finish. It can be optionally veneered to match the back, or supplied in other colors. Main frame. The main, ribbed frame is matte textured metal, and is available in a natural or medium gray anodized finish. Baffle board. The standard metal parts mounted on the baffle board are ordinarily metallic in appearance, with either a natural or gray anodize. These may be painted, usually black to make their appearance more subtle behind the grille. The baffle board itself is ordinarily black, but can be finished in any color or veneered to match the back. Auditions. We take the need for listening tests seriously. If you have contacted us and found that no dealer carries JansZen in your area, you will have three alternatives: 1) Audition event. Let us know who you are and await a listening event in your area. Once we have a few inquiries from your region, or after a fairly short time, we will provide you with a private listening test. This will be offered in a temporary audition room, normally in a hotel suite, but possibly at a dealer who is considering the speakers, and if there has been only one request from your area within a few weeks of your request, your audition could occur in your home, if desired. 2) Dealer request. Ask that your dealer call us and set up an audition for you. Dealers should be made aware that we will transport and install the speakers at no charge, and may be able to leave them in place for several weeks under some conditions. 3) Distant dealer visit. Travel, either to JansZen headquarters in Ohio or to a dealer that may be some distance from your home, but nearer than we are. You will receive a travel expense credit of up to US$1000. Assurance: When we stress the importance of an audition, we mean it. On the other hand, you might have reasons for feeling confident purchasing your system without one. We would be equally confident that you will be entirely pleased, but as a rule, loudspeakers have a dominant effect on the sound of a system, and sound tends to be a matter of taste. This means that there is an undeniable element of risk. Because we think it is still very likely that you will be pleased, we are willing to take about half that risk upon ourselves. This means that if you are not satisfied, we will only hold back the portion of the price paid that we have estimated will generally recover about half our costs. We felt that half and half is fair, and if you do not agree, then an audition is definitely the way to go. For what it is worth, our estimates assume that a discount customer will be found for your particular choices of finishes and options, and if one can not, then we will have assumed the majority of the risk. Here is the assurance: If you find that you are not satisfied, while the installation technician is still on your premises, you may reject the system and be granted a refund of 80% of the price paid. Warrantee. The systems contain both electronics and driver elements, which are warranted separ- ately. The speaker elements (drivers) and mechanical parts are warranted against failure caused by manufacturing defects for five years. The electronics are warranted against failure caused by manufacturing defects for two years. Repair. Systems or components in need of repair or replacement during these periods will quickly be factory or on-site repaired or replaced at no charge. Life expectancy. JansZen systems are designed and stress tested for maximal durability, and should perform well with no maintenance for at least twenty years. Refurbishment. These speakers can be consider- ed heirloom investments. Note that there are original JansZen systems still in operation with no maintenance that were made in the first years of operation of the original JansZen Laboratory more than 50 years ago. In the coming decades, refurb- ishment services will be offered as they become needed. |
